Hello Parents of Our Virtual Classroom,
Happy New Year! Welcome to our new classroom website! Here you will find all things that you may need as a parent! I am trying to keep it as updated as possible as we move forward. This first post has a lot of information, but it is the time of the year we review expectations in the classroom (even online!) 😀 Future postings will be shorter!
Schedule
First thing is first, our schedule remain the same as of right now. (woohoo to getting back into routine!)

Student Check-ins
Student Check-ins and reading progress monitoring will take place within the next two weeks. We are checking in our nonsense words. (Those are used to see if students understand the letter sounds and how to decode and read them fluently!) If you haven't signed up your owl as of yet, please sign up HERE.
Semester 2
Once I am allowed to share information regarding semester 2, I will do so through ClassDojo. If you have opted to return to face-to-face learning, you will also receive that information as soon as I am allowed to share.
Small Group Updates:
Once placements for 2nd semester are solidified, I can tell you all about our small group changes. Based on individual skills, students may be readjusted to better suit their learning needs, however, they could stay in the same group. It just depends on their learning journey. 😀
Materials:
Please be sure your students have their materials available for class nearby. They may need their notebook to work out a problem in math or to write during writing. As we move forward in the new year, it would be super helpful to designate a special spot for all of their supplies. If you need a basket, I'm sure I can find one for you! Please let me know. We want to continue to grow as independent learners as we would be in the regular classroom.
Communication
Communication remains on ClassDojo as it is the easiest to keep track of full conversations and pops up on my teacher iPad for me to reply to quicker! If you didn't know, you can access it on the computer as well if you need to, woohoo!

Our Weekly Learning Update
Weekly Parent Checklist
More Owlsome News From Mr. Gaudet
Positivity Project Word: Optimism
Letterland: Ending Blends (nd, nt, sk, st) We will continue to build fluency as strong decoders in Letterland.
Reading: Finishing "The Winner's Choice" and starting "Hunter's Money Jar." We will continue to focus on key details in a fiction text and the central message in a story.
Math: Nonstandard Measurement (measuring with items instead of traditional measurement) This unit is fun and involves a lot of precision when measuring. We will talk about the proper ways to measure and what not to do when measuring.
Writing: This week we will review some foundational writing skills as we move forward into our "How-To" unit next week. We will be writing a how-to book as a capstone project in this unit!
Social Studies: We will be studying families from long ago and today! Check out the graphic below to see more about this unit! (This unit also gives us a GREAT background for Unit 4 of ReadyGen, which has a story about a family who lived long ago!)
